Many of us don’t have a lot of time to spend on our gardens but still want them to look good. As a result we try and cram as much gardening as we can into our weekends. It is a physical activity that many of us are not used to after sitting at a desk through the working week. While the weather is on our side let’s enjoy weekends of injury free gardening!

Frustrated by slow or little weight/fat loss?

by james on February 14, 2011

Frustrated by slow or little weight/fat loss?

Is it as simple as just training hard and eating the right stuff?

Well for JPB Personal Training, not always. That’s why we take it a few steps further. With an ethos on optimum health and each body being individual we think its key to put processes in place to get the best results for each of our clients.

Have you ever found that even though you’ve worked hard on the diet and exercise, progress continues to be slow or none existent?

I speak to many people who say “I’m trying really hard with what I’m eating and exercising more, but not seeing the results”. Never fear, we can change this!

Here are a few things we start with to ensure we get you to where you want to be and take the stress and frustration out of it all.

 1. Health Appraisal Questionnaire – This takes a nice in depth look at your body and how it’s working for you. It looks at a few things such as adrenal and thyroid function, liver function musculoskeletal function and many more.

 2. Health Check – This consists of a weight measurement, waist measurement (more of a priority than jumping on the scales) and skin fold measurements for body fat percentages. These are reviewed on a 4 weekly basis to measure progress.  We also set clear goals that are set by you along with a motivational score for each goal. This allows us to be realistic but also to have an understanding of where we are and where we are going.

3. ‘Great Start’ Tests – These take a look at your bodies ability to absorb nutrients, fungal overgrowth, hydrochloric acid levels, heavy metals in the body, ph levels, and zinc levels.

Once you’ve got these you’re well and truly on the road to a happier, more vibrant lifestyle.

Pain Between the Shoulder Blades | Back to Chiropractic

by jackiecowie on February 8, 2011

Quite often a patient will come into the chiropractic clinic and tell me they have a back pain between their shoulder blades. They’ll want to show me where the pain is by touching my back because they cannot reach the painful area on their own backs.

Heard of Foam Rolling and How Great It Is?

by james on January 30, 2011

Here at JPB Personal Training we are a massive fan of foam rolling!

Not sure what it is but would like to know a bit more?  Well I’ll let you in on it.

The technical term for foam rolling is ‘Self Myofascial Release’. The basis of which is to manipulate the muscle fibres back to their natural, most functional state. So if you feel tight or have a knot in a muscle the foam roll is for you! It’s great for increasing flexibility and also in assisting the body to move as it should and how it wants to.

Great areas to work on are the Calf, Quads, Hamstrings, IT Band (outside thigh), Adductors (inside thigh), Piri Formis, Upper and Lower back, and Lats. It can feel uncomfortable, but that doesn’t mean you should stop, it very much highlights the need to keep foam rolling to enable those muscles to feel better.

The foam roll is becoming more and more popular and as a Personal Trainer encouraging people to move properly and utilise the body, I am glad. You can purchase them for a minimal fee from the link below. I would strongly recommend having one in the home. I spend 10 to 15 minutes a day on mine.
